PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
1. Our growing Real Estate Disputes team is looking for an experienced Associate to join our team in London.
2. If you have 2+ years' experience in a similar practice, are technically competent, commercially aware and committed to the growth of the group then we would love to speak to you.
3. You will act on a range of high value, high profile and complex litigation cases, particularly in relation to institutional clients and occupiers with extensive commercial property portfolios.
4. Whilst not essential, we are also interested in candidates who have some experience of residential disputes.
THE TEAM:
5. Our Real Estate Disputes Team (known internally as the RED team) is led by Julie Middlemass and is noted as one of the best teams for property litigation in the country. It is known for its ability to act for high-profile tenants and some of the UK's largest institutional investors on a full range of high value complex matters. The team works on disputes for investors, developers, landlords, tenants and insolvency practitioners.
6. The team is one of the largest and strongest, comprising 30 lawyers (including 4 partners) plus paralegals and trainees. The team is based in 3 locations being Leeds, London and Manchester. There is a particular emphasis currently on growing our highly successful London team.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE:
7. You can expect to work on a varied and broad mix of work in all forms of real estate disputes.
8. You will be responsible for dealing with a full range of landlord and tenant asset management matters including lease renewals (contested and uncontested), rent reviews, dilapidation claims, forfeiture and possession of actions.
9. As part of a larger team, you will act on more complex, high value litigation, arbitrations and mediations. The London team has particular expertise in building safety matters, rights of light, telecoms, and joint venture disputes.
10. You will be focusing on advising clients on addressing risks, increasingly, on crisis management.
11. Strongly encouraged to take responsibility for business development both engaging directly with client contacts at networking events and by providing training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERTISE
12. You will be 2-4years PQE with Real Estate Disputes experience (we may be interested in individuals who also have residential experience alongside commercial).
13. You will commercially aware, with not only a strong knowledge of the law but the ability to apply it effectively, giving our clients useful advice that is commercially beneficial to their businesses.
14. You will have experience in client facing roles, taking instructions directly from clients and managing/delegating more routine matters, in addition to running your own less routine matters.
15. You need enthusiasm, resilience and ambition. That is, the ambition to improve yourself with the best possible work, making the most of the opportunities you will be given.
16. You must have demonstrable academics or relevant experience or interests.
