First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Fitter on behalf of one of our clients.
You will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance and repair of fixed and mobile plant across operations. You will play a key role in supporting operational continuity and minimising equipment downtime while maintaining high safety standards.
Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Carry out repair and maintenance of static and mobile quarry plant.
2. Undertake risk assessments for non-routine tasks.
3. Undertake engine servicing / repair on static and mobile plant engines.
4. Order stores/tools/equipment/parts as required.
5. Responsible for personal safety and that of all personnel under your authority, including others who may be affected by the company’s activities.
6. Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with safety rules / procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
7. If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, consult Supervisor.
8. Obtain and use the correct tools / equipment for the work and not to use any that are unsafe or damaged. All tools, equipment and personal protective equipment must be stored in the approved place after use.
9. Ensure that all guards are securely fixed, and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing / equipment provided are used.
10. Not to operate any plant or equipment unless authorised.
11. To report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to line management.
12. To switch off and secure unattended plant or equipment.
13. To avoid improvised arrangements and suggest safe ways of eliminating hazards.
Skills and Qualifications:
14. Experience and knowledge of quarry plant mechanical repair and maintenance is essential.
15. Satisfactory completion of the relevant competency management system modules.
16. Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
17. To work well as part of a team and on own.
18. You will need to be a self-motivated problem solver able to work under your own initiative.
19. Should possess good diagnostic skills and have the ability to provide a logical approach to fault finding.
20. A good communicator and self-organised.
