Outdoor Education Deputy Manager at Empower Family Group
Full Time, Monday to Friday 08:30am to 4:30pm.
Location: Office and Site Base.
Salary: £32,860.
Contract: Permanent.
About the Role
Empower Family Group’s Quantock Outdoor Education Service is expanding. The Deputy Manager will lead and manage the delivery of high‑quality outdoor education programmes, ensuring the safety, well‑being and positive development of all students. Responsibilities include managing safeguarding concerns, collaborating with external stakeholders, overseeing curriculum delivery and supporting staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Safeguarding and Student Welfare: Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy), manage and respond to safeguarding concerns, ensure staff follow protocols and receive training, maintain accurate records and liaise with external agencies.
* Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Attend student review meetings, liaise with parents, carers, schools and agencies, provide clear updates on progress and concerns.
* Managing Referrals and Bookings: Oversee the referral and booking process, collaborate with schools and local authorities, maintain accurate records of referrals, bookings and outcomes.
* Curriculum Development and Delivery: Design, implement and evaluate the outdoor education curriculum, promote personal, social and emotional development, update content regularly and monitor quality through observations and feedback.
* Staff Supervision and Development: Conduct staff supervisions and appraisals, identify training needs, provide CPD opportunities, support staff in managing challenging behaviours and delivering student‑centred activities.
* Operational Leadership: Ensure day‑to‑day operations run smoothly, implement health and safety procedures, contribute strategically to service improvement and growth.
This role requires an enhanced DBS check for child and adult workforce, with barred list checks.
Requirements
* Essential:
o Strong academic track record.
o Evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development.
o Excellent numeracy/literacy skills.
* Desirable:
o First Aid.
o Safeguarding.
o Driving licence with D1+E.
* Experience:
o Working with children of relevant age.
o Experience with young people with additional needs.
o Experience delivering literacy and reading/writing recovery programmes.
o Full working knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice and legislation.
o Working knowledge of the national curriculum and other relevant programmes.
o Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes, especially barriers to learning.
