Role Purpose
The Head of Breaking Boundaries is a senior leadership role responsible for stewarding Dorset Cricket’s Breaking Boundaries agenda and ensuring community and volunteer voice meaningfully shapes the organisation’s strategic direction, decision‑making and culture.
This role exists to bring coherence to lived experience, insight and volunteer leadership across the county, translating it into clear organisational learning, accountability and change. It is not a programme delivery role. It is a leadership and influence role that ensures access, belonging and participation are embedded into how Dorset Cricket plans, governs and operates.
The postholder will lead the Breaking Boundaries Network as a strategic framework that connects people, insight and action, ensuring Dorset Cricket listens effectively, responds with intent and demonstrates measurable progress.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Act as the senior organisational lead for the Breaking Boundaries agenda, ensuring it is embedded across strategy, governance and delivery.
* Contribute fully as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, shaping organisational priorities, culture, risk and long‑term planning through a Breaking Boundaries lens.
* Support the Board and Executive to understand where structural, cultural or systemic barriers exist within Dorset cricket and what needs to change.
Stewardship of community and volunteer voice
* Steward Dorset Cricket’s approach to volunteer and community voice, ensuring lived experience informs decision‑making at all levels of the organisation.
* Create trusted, structured routes for insight, challenge and feedback from across the county to influence strategy and leadership thinking.
* Ensure Dorset Cricket is accountable for responding to insight, not simply collecting it.
Breaking Boundaries Network Leadership
* Provide leadership and coordination across the Breaking Boundaries Network, including its focus areas: inclusion, women and girls, facilities, and young people.
* Support volunteer champions and subject‑matter leads to work collaboratively rather than in isolation, building coherence across networks.
* Ensure the network operates as a shared, co‑created model that empowers volunteers as leaders rather than delivery agents.
Strategic Integration & Influence
* Translate insight from the Breaking Boundaries Network into clear themes, risks, opportunities and recommendations for Senior Leadership Team and Board consideration.
* Work closely with colleagues across cricket operations, workforce, facilities, communications, and governance to ensure insights lead to tangible organisational change.
* Ensure inclusion, access and belonging are considered early in planning and decision‑making, not retrospectively.
Impact, Learning & Accountability
* Lead the development of meaningful ways to evidence impact, focusing on experience, access, representation and belonging as well as participation.
* Support Dorset Cricket to clearly articulate how the Breaking Boundaries insight has influenced decisions, investment and priorities.
* Champion a culture of openness, reflection and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Personal Specification
Essential
* Demonstrable senior leadership experience within community, voluntary, inclusion, sport or complex stakeholder environments.
* Strong credibility working with volunteers, lived‑experience groups or community‑led networks.
* Ability to operate with confidence and influence at the Senior Leadership Team and Board level.
* Experience of translating insight, dialogue and lived experience into strategic influence rather than programme delivery.
* Excellent relationship‑building, facilitation and communication skills.
* Strong alignment with values of inclusion, fairness, belonging and shared leadership.
Desirable
* Experience working within sport, governing bodies or federated organisations.
* Understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion as a systems, culture and governance issue rather than solely a policy‑based issue.
* Experience supporting organisational change or influencing senior decision‑making.
* Familiarity with network‑led or volunteer‑powered models of change.
