Offer description

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Teacher of Economics to join our high-achieving and dynamic Economics department on a full-time basis from September 2026. The successful candidate will, in particular, have solid experience of and demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching the full Economics syllabus to both Lower and Upper Sixth (AQA specification). Experience gained in a previous career outside teaching would be of significant advantage.

The successful candidate will be engaging and will bring energy to the classroom. They must be a team-player and demonstrate an enthusiasm and willingness to assist in study-related trips and events. The department offers a wide range of opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom, including school trips to Canary Wharf, student-led Economics talks run by the Student Society, participation in competitions such as the Economics Olympiad and the RES Young Economist of the Year Competition, and participation in conferences held by the BOE and OBR. Our students are ambitious and they truly value the additional support the school offers for these prestigious opportunities.

Economics is one of the most popular choices at A Level with Harrodian students and is one of the best performing departments in terms of A level results. We are continually developing our range of teaching resources, including our tech-driven materials for the optimum use of student iPads within lessons, and we endeavour to provide a range of interesting opportunities for pupils to develop their appreciation of the subject matter and its relevance to the bigger, global picture.

Applications from ECTs will be considered but must be supported by a relevant degree and useful experience in industry, as well as demonstrating an outstanding ability to teach.

The Economics department offers a professional and collaborative working environment where our students’ achievement and progress are at the forefront of our teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, teaching and assessment within the department. We are looking for a teacher who can teach outstanding lessons, has excellent classroom management skills and is able to inspire and motivate pupils through a diverse range of teaching styles. They will consistently model excellent practice and will be able to make a significant contribution to this strong and successful department.

Working days and hours

Full-time working days and hours at Harrodian are Mondays from 08h00 to 17h00 and Tuesdays to Fridays from 08h15 to 17h00. Five staff training days are held over the year, at the start of the Autumn, October half, and Spring terms. Term dates are published on the School’s website.

Salary and Benefits

The salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Harrodian offers a range of benefits, including a free car park (on a first come first served basis), a cycle to work scheme, free refreshments and lunches during term time, free access to some of the School’s sport and leisure facilities at stipulated times, access to an ongoing cycle of cultural, musical, theatrical and sporting talks and events, and a defined contribution pension scheme.

The School

As you will see from looking at our website, particularly our ‘Spirit’ section), Harrodian was founded in 1993 and is a co-educational school set on 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. Providing staff and students alike with a welcoming and exceptional learning environment, where small class sizes and high standards foster academic excellence, we value enthusiasm, adaptability and a commitment to student engagement across all ability levels. A sense of fun, responsiveness to individual learning needs, and an open approach to teaching are qualities we regard highly. Staff are also expected to contribute to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school, ensuring a holistic and enriching educational experience for all pupils.
