Overview
The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery seeks a consultant with a broad interest in general plastic surgery, including skin, oncology and trauma. The role is part of an established team of 18 consultants and supports elective and emergency services across the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.
Responsibilities
* Elective theatre lists and day case surgery at Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.
* Inpatient and trauma operations at Pinderfields.
* On‑call duties shared with 10 colleagues; weekday and weekend rotations.
* Participation as consultant of the week covering general trauma (1 in 11 weeks).
* Support Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with a minimum of 1.5 SPAs per 10‑PA timetable; additional SPA/DCC time may be commissioned per skill set.
* May involve formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles.
* Dedicated office space on Pinderfields site and access to IT facilities at other sites.
Person Specification – Essential
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise, inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastics or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR/equivalent).
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school; FRCS or equivalent.
* Senior‑level experience suitable for Specialist Register.
* Computer literate; fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative.
* Ability to deliver service independently and work flexibly within a team.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, good time management and effective communication with staff and patients.
* Compassionate, caring, team‑player; flexible, adaptable and willing to learn NHS systems.
* Physical capability to carry out duties; valid driving licence.
* Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
