Clinical Team Leader

Welcome to CNWL Mental Health Inpatient Services for Children and Young People. Collingham Child and Family Centre is one of six National 7 Day Inpatient settings, that work in partnership with Chelsea Hospital Schools for children aged 5 - 13 years old. We are currently recruiting for an exciting CAMHS Clinical Team Leader (RCN, RMN, RNLD).

Nestled between High Street Kensington & Earls Court, Collingham is a Tier 4 Children's Mental Health Unit which provides acute inpatient and schooling for young people with a range of with complex mental health needs and behavioural problems.

The role consists of a flexible shift pattern: Early 07:30 - 15:30, Late 12:30 - 20:30, Nights 20:00 - 08:00. This is a 24/7 service.

At Collingham you will be supporting children and their families to build resilience, better coping strategies and healthy relationships through therapeutic intervention and structured meaningful activity. We appreciate that not everyone has provided care for young people in an inpatient setting, but if you\'re a Registered Paediatric, Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurse, we\'d love to hear from you.


Main duties of the job

Leadership & Management

* Act as deputy for the Unit Manager, coordinating unit activities in their absence.
* Supervise and manage junior staff, including Senior Staff Nurses and HCAs.

Clinical Care

* Lead on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for children and families.
* Develop and oversee behavioural programmes, ensuring staff are trained in their delivery.
* Act as a key worker for a small caseload of children.

Therapeutic & Recreational Activities

* Organise and run therapeutic groups and educational activities.
* Plan and supervise recreational activities for inpatients.
* Participate in family therapy sessions and offer practical support to families.

Documentation & Reporting

* Maintain accurate case notes and nursing care plans.

Training & Development

* Supervise students and participate in training activities to maintain clinical skills.
* Contribute to service development through clinical audits and research.

The team consists of nursing, psychology, occupational therapists, systemic psychotherapists, support workers, ward manager, matron and psychiatry.

What do we do?

The team provides intensive assessment and treatment for children with complex emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties, offering intensive work with families/parents and carers to develop their parenting skills.

Our highly experienced and dedicated multidisciplinary team is committed to offering the highest standards of care to help children and families regain their self-confidence. Adopting a solution focused approach for hard to manage problems and steer a course towards optimism, newly realised potential and a positive future for the child and their family network.

Typical tasks for this role?

* To support the ward manager in leading day-to-day running of the ward.
* To lead on nursing feedback in ward round and other professional meetings
* To take on the Primary Nurse role for individual young people.
* To assist in the development of junior staff and act as a role model to them.
* To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people (CYP) and their families at all times.
* To put children, young people, their families and carers at the centre of everything we do.
* To ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring, clean and safe environment for the CYP and their families.
* Recognising escalation in behaviour or shift in ward dynamics and proactively address this with staff or young people.
* Monitoring observations and ensuring safe practice and act appropriately and in line with unit procedure.
* Supervising junior staff and students to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* UK Registered NMC Mental Health Nurse
* Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
* Evidence of an active interest in further professional development


Experience

* Significant years post registration experience at Band 5
* Ability tolead/work in Multi-disciplinary Teams
* Ability to shift manage unit oa regular basis. Deputise in the absence of the Unit Manager
* Ability to supervise junior staff.
* Experience within CAMHS settings or working with children


Skills

* Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports.
* Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
* Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
* Able to maintain electronic patient records Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
* Work well with other members of the team including communicating effectively, being kind and considerate, reliable and enthusiastic
* Help others in the team achieve their objectives and deliver safe, effective care
* Mentor, teach and support others in the team
* Supervise others in the team
* Contribute to the culture of the team and play a role in making it inclusive, kind and hard working
* Demonstration of leadership skills within the team and with junior staff members
* Basic knowledge or understanding of performance and sickness process
* Demonstrate awareness of multi-cultural issues in acute settings
* Experience in working with Information Systems
* Experience in monitoring untrained staff and students
