Role
The BCC Research Fellow will:
1. To contribute to and/or lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes, specifically the conception, collection, and analysis of an original database, as described above.
2. Observe a workflow in data management and programming that follows key principles of reproducibility and research transparency.
3. To participate actively in the planning and management of the quantitative research aspects of the BCC Research Programme, including providing expert advice and guidance to other members of the Consortium and where relevant supervising the work of others.
4. To contribute to the public understanding of research and scholarship, through dissemination of results in conferences and postgraduate teaching activities.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
The following are role-specific essential requirements:
5. A first degree in Political Science or Sociology
6. PhD in Political Science or Sociology, or equivalent experience
7. Knowledge of research methods and techniques, with a special focus on quantitative methods, the operationalisation of concepts, data collection, data management, and data analysis
8. Advanced knowledge of relevant statistics software, such as R or Stata
9. Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for a small research project or identified parts of a large project
10. Competency to conduct individual and collaborative research, including by developing research objectives and implementing them
11. Well-developed analytical skills
12. Ability to write up research work for publication and onward dissemination
13. Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with academic and policy audiences, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
14. Experience in using quantitative methods for conducting high quality research
15. Experience of undertaking publicly evidenced high quality research
16. Successful management of research projects
17. Evidence of dissemination of scholarly
The following are desirable criteria:
18. Knowledge of principles of reproducibility and research transparency
19. Knowledge in version control (e.g. Git)
20. Knowledge of international law or international humanitarian law or international human rights law
21. Experience in large-scale data collection and collation
