We’re working closely with an ambitious and growing business in Thirsk to recruit a Financial Controller for a newly created role within the finance team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking finance professional who enjoys working at the heart of a business. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you’ll play a key role in driving financial operations, improving systems and processes, and leading a small but high-performing team.
This isn’t a “sit quietly behind spreadsheets” type of role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys collaboration, problem-solving and bringing new ideas to the table. You’ll be comfortable working across the business, using data and technology to improve the way finance supports decision-making.
Alongside overseeing the day-to-day finance function, you’ll also be involved in systems improvements, automation and upcoming software implementation projects, helping modernise and streamline financial processes.
What you'll be doing
1. Owning and overseeing the month-end close and financial reporting cycle
2. Reviewing and authorising BACS payment runs
3. Managing bank reconciliations and cashflow forecasting
4. Overseeing VAT reconciliation and quarterly submissions
5. Reviewing payroll processes and exception reporting
6. Maintaining and optimising the accounting system, including journals and ledger integrity
7. Preparing and reviewing monthly balance sheet reconciliations
8. Supporting the AP and AR teams during month-end close
9. Playing a key role in finance systems improvements and software implementation projects
10. Supporting year-end statutory reporting and audit processes
11. Leading and mentoring a small finance team
What we're looking for
12. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified - non-negotiable!
13. A confident user of Sage 50 and advanced Excel
14. Experience leading or mentoring finance staff
15. A proactive mindset with an interest in improving systems and processes
16. Strong communication skills and the ability to work across the wider business
