Overview
Principal Clinical Psychologist - Stroke & Neuro at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust. A fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Psychologist / neuropsychologist to contribute to the development of a neuropsychological pathway across Dorset Stroke & Neuro inpatient services.
You will apply extensive experience in clinical and neuropsychology with patients who have experienced a stroke and with neurological conditions within teams that provide rehabilitation to adults to maximise independence and improve quality of life. You will help patients’ seamless transition from hospital to rehabilitation in the community; support MDT formulation for complex cases; provide education and supervision for team members involved in assessment and intervention; and provide expert clinical input for complex cases across the Stroke & Neuro units at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) & University Hospitals Dorset (UHD).
You will have opportunities to apply innovation and flexibility as new pathways develop across the stroke & neuro pathway. In partnership with the Neuropsychology Clinical Lead and other stakeholders you will contribute your clinical psychology expertise in specialist assessments and interventions as part of Stroke and neuro MDTs. The role is based across various bases in Dorset (DCH, Yeatman Hospital, UHD Bournemouth & Poole) with regular travel across the county. The service is evolving, so resilience and the ability to support others in building resilience are important.
Responsibilities
* Provide a specific clinical psychology service to people with stroke and neurological conditions.
* Support and strengthen a distributed model of psychological care within the Stroke Specialist MDT.
* Deliver effective, evidence‑based, expert clinical neuropsychological and clinical psychology assessments and interventions.
* Provide and facilitate MDT clinical formulations that integrate highly complex variables over time.
* Offer advice and consultation on clients’ clinical psychological/neuropsychological situations to MDT members, families and carers.
* Utilise research skills for audits, policy and service developments and apply research as part of the clinical approach.
* Engage in education, supervision and service development within the team.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Clinical Psychologist or Neuropsychologist with appropriate professional registration (e.g., HCPC).
* Experience in neuropsychology and stroke rehabilitation in adult services.
* Ability to work across multiple MDTs and provide specialist assessments and interventions.
* DBS check required (Enhanced). The Trust will cover the cost of the DBS check; applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service may present a valid certificate.
* Travel across Dorset bases is required (DCH, Yeatman Hospital, UHD Bournemouth & Poole).
* Some candidates may require UK skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are ineligible to apply.
