About The Division
The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald's centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering diverse and technically challenging work. The team provides a variety of services across the full project life cycle – from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.
Overview Of Role
As a senior water quality modeller you will work within a large team of water resources and wastewater network specialists, collaborating closely with engineers and asset planners to deliver a wide range of services for UK and international clients. The role involves working with bespoke and industry standard hydrodynamic and water quality modelling packages, innovating beyond current standards, and developing integrated river network and drainage models.
You Will Be Responsible For
* Core delivery of complex modelling projects – working alongside experts across a range of disciplines to apply attention to detail and numerical skills to environmental engineering projects.
* Analysing large datasets to distil patterns and relationships, providing insights to inform resolutions and interventions, and assisting with proposal writing and new business development.
* Maintaining client relationships and managing projects.
* Supporting and training junior colleagues, mentoring and developing early career professionals.
Candidate Specification
* Relevant degree‑level qualifications (e.g., geography, mathematics, environmental sciences, civil engineering, or related disciplines)
* Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
* Track record in successful delivery of SOAF, UPM and/or river modelling projects for UK water companies.
* Good understanding of hydrodynamics, sediments and water quality processes.
* Expertise in industry standard software such as InfoWorks and/or MIKE11.
* Willingness to innovate.
* Ability to guide and mentor junior staff.
Desirable Include Skills
* Coding skills and statistical foundations.
* Experience in source apportionment assessments, catchment management modelling or application of nature‑based solutions.
