Overview
Anestablished food manufacturing business is looking to appoint a QHSE Officer to support its site operations. This role is key to maintaining a safe working environment while ensuring compliance with all Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety legislation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a QHSE Advisor or similar professional looking to take the next step in their career within a fast-paced, multi-site (factory and farm) environment.
Role
Reporting into the senior team, the QHSE Officer will play a central role in developing, maintaining, and improving health, safety, environmental, and quality systems across the business. You will work closely with both factory and farm teams to identify risks, drive compliance, and champion a positive safety and food safety culture.
Key responsibilities include:
* Developing and maintaining Health & Safety and Environmental systems, processes, and risk assessments
* Leading engagement with external HSE and environmental agencies, as well as supporting customer and QMS audits
* Supporting the development and implementation of HSE policies and procedures
* Working with senior leadership to define and monitor HSE KPIs
* Providing clear, accurate, and practical HSE advice across the business
* Producing monthly QHSE reports, analysing trends, and driving continuous improvement initiatives
* Delivering HSE inductions and ongoing training to employees
* Leading safety committee meetings, including preparation of presentations and minutes
* Building strong relationships across departments, acting as a key point of contact for HSE matters
* Conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations, producing reports and action plans
* Advising on specialist areas such as fire safety, hazardous substances (COSHH), machinery safety (PUWER), noise, and occupational health risks
* Supporting the implementation and audit of Food Safety and Quality Management Systems
Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a confident and proactive QHSE professional with experience in a manufacturing environment, looking to step into a broader and more influential role.
Key requirements:
* Experience in a Health & Safety or QHSE role within manufacturing (food industry desirable)
* Experience conducting risk assessments (including COSHH and PUWER)
* Previous experience delivering training and inductions
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels
* Confident, personable, and able to influence stakeholders
* Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
* Good IT skills, including MS Office
Desirable:
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards)
* Internal Auditor qualification
