About the role:
The family support worker aspect of the role focuses on providing early intervention and preventative support to families. The goal is to address issues that might impact a child's well-being and education, helping to prevent problems from escalating. This might include, liaison and communication, practical and emotional support, early help and referrals, mentoring and intervention and putting in place strategies to encourage attendance and engagement. A family support worker who is also a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) in a primary school has a dynamic role with responsibilities that overlap and complement each other. The core focus is on child welfare and safeguarding, working with both families and the school community.
