Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HR and Compliance Officer to support the smooth running of our children's home. This role is central to ensuring safer recruitment, HR compliance, financial administration, and day-to-day operational support. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, confident in managing systems such as Xero and BrightHR (or similar), and committed to maintaining the highest safeguarding and regulatory standards in line with Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the safer recruitment process, including advertising roles, processing applications, verifying references, right-to-work checks, and maintaining compliant staff files.
* Manage and update HR systems and staff compliance records, ensuring training, DBS, and supervision logs remain up to date.
* Support the induction and onboarding process for new staff, including coordination of mandatory training and policy familiarisation.
* Provide HR administration support, including drafting contracts, updating handbooks, managing staff rotas, and supporting employee relations matters.
* Use Xero to process payroll inputs, track invoices, reconcile expenses, and support financial reporting.
* Assist the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual with day-to-day operational administration, including compliance reports, Ofsted documentation, and audit preparation.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and safeguarding standards.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of HR and operational policies to enhance organisational effectiveness.
Requirements
* Previous HR, compliance, or administration experience, ideally within health, social care, or education.
* Knowledge of safer recruitment practices and safeguarding responsibilities.
* Strong IT and systems skills; experience using Xero, HRIS (e.g., BrightHR, ClearCare) or similar systems is desirable.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with attention to detail.
* Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
* Understanding of Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted compliance (desirable but training will be provided).
* Ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the home and wider organisation.
