Molecular Radiotherapy Lead

London, The Harley Street Clinic and across the hospital group

Full time: 37.5 hours per week

Fixed Term, Maternity Cover

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Harley Street Clinic’s Molecular Radiotherapy service. The purpose of this role is to maintain and develop the radionuclide service, as well as provide specialist scientific support to the wider Medical Physics service. The post holder will also be responsible for the direction of these services and supporting other hospitals within the group like The Wellington Hospital and London Bridge Hospital.

There will also be an opportunity to be involved in other aspects of work within the Medical Physics department (e.g. LDR prostate brachytherapy, Linac QA and dosimetry, research and development, etc.)

We currently offer I-131 thyroid ablation, Lu-177 DOTATATE, and Y-90 SIRT.

Main Duties:

1. Manage all aspects of molecular radiotherapy activity in the department.

2. Contribute to the QA program for all areas of the department.

3. Assess, maintain and calibrate radiation monitoring instruments

4. Enhance existing and implement new molecular therapy techniques.

5. Advise and assist clinicians in setting up new therapeutic protocols that require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.

6. Provide training to other staff members e.g. nurses, RMOs or other physics staff on the safe use and storage of radionuclides within the hospital environment.

7. Represent the department during inspections for external compliance or conformance e.g. EA, CQC, HSE, ARSAC or BSI.

8. Act as Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for areas where radionuclides are used or stored within the hospital.

9. Prepare procedures, protocols, Local Rules and risk assessments pertaining to MRT and other areas of the Medical Physics department where appropriate. Contribute to regular reviews of all documentation in use and prepare related reports and presentations.

10. Develop the continual growth of the service. This can be through assisting the onboarding of new consultants and the launching of new MRT services, ensuring HCA policies and external compliance requirements are met in the process.

11. Lead the development, standardisation and alignment of MRT services across all HCA campuses, in line with the “One HCA” vision.

What you’ll bring:

12. Knowledge of best practices for handling of sealed and unsealed radioactive sources

13. Ability to create and update protocols and procedures

14. Knowledge of best practices for use of contamination and dose rate monitors

15. Knowledge of best practices for use of radionuclide dose calibrators

16. Able to explain complex information across various formats

17. Able to coordinate diverse professionals to resolve clinical challenges

18. Manual dexterity to manipulate unsealed radioactive sources safely / accurately

19. Working knowledge of appropriate legislation (e.g. EPR, IRR, IRMER)

20. Understanding the wider Radiation Oncology Service offerings in healthcare

21. Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific, technical or healthcare discipline

22. Registration with an appropriate body (e.g. RCT or HCPC) is desirable
