Are you looking for a varied intelligence role that will help make a difference to the health and wellbeing of people in our communities?

NHS Lothian is seeking a Senior Intelligence Analyst (Band 7) to join our Public Health Intelligence Team. Applicants with skills in formal approaches to evaluation (e.g., evaluability assessment, logic modelling/theory of change) are particularly encouraged to apply.

We have an opportunity for a dynamic Senior Health Intelligence Analyst to join our Public Health Intelligence Team within NHS Lothian’s Department of Public Health and Health Policy.

This role will be central to a programme of evaluation linked to place-based working, in particular the ‘Neighbourhood Prevention Partnerships’. This model is being developed to identify the ways in which services, in particular public sector services, can operate in more of a prevention, upstream way, ensuring that relationships with communities are central to the process. The post holder will work with a range of partners to design, develop and deliver an evaluation programme which will inform learning not only on the impact this has on services and those who are in receipt of them, but also on how this type of delivery supports whole system change which is long term, sustainable and improves outcomes for communities.

Public Health Intelligence Analysts are key members of our Public Health Intelligence Team. You will work closely with colleagues and partners across domains of public health to produce high quality public health intelligence. This intelligence helps paint a picture of our communities and is central to informing planning, policy and services as NHS Lothian and its partners work to improve people’s lives by reducing health inequalities and improving health.

This is a three-year full time Agenda for Change Band 7 position. The main departmental office is currently at Mainpoint, 102 Westport in central Edinburgh, although we also have offices at the Astley Ainslie Hospital site and hybrid working is the norm at present.

We are looking for people who are confident prioritising and leading programmes of work, taking responsibility for the planning, analysis, interpretation and communication of evidence-informed public health intelligence.

We are specifically looking for someone that will bring significant experience leading the design and implementation of formal approaches to evaluation in a context relevant to public health. This may include, for example, evaluability assessment, developing logic models or theories of change, process evaluation and outcome evaluation.

This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who want to work as part of a highly skilled team and who wish to apply and develop their specialist public health intelligence skills to contribute to the priorities of a large Public Health department. Candidates will have a degree plus additional specialist knowledge to SCQF Level 11 in relevant field e.g. epidemiology, research methods, information analysis, statistics and/or qualitative methodology.

We cannot accept CVs as a form of application and only a completed online application form will be accepted. Personal information will not be sent with the application for short listing. The application form will be identified by the candidate number only to ensure that all applicants are treated equally.

If you are interested and would like an informal discussion or to request any further details, please contact Ross Whitehead, Head of Public Health Intelligence, NHS Lothian at ross.whitehead1@nhs.scot or Yvonne Kerr, Strategic Programme Manager, NHS Lothian at Yvonne.kerr@nhs.scot
