This is resulting in large numbers of students choosing to study the triple sciences at GCSE, along with ever-increasing numbers of students studying the sciences at A level.

The Misbourne is an 11-18 mixed school single-academy trust in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns. We have nearly 1100 students on roll, including a successful and growing Sixth Form. About the role
Our values at The Misbourne for both students and staff are learning, kindness and excellence; these permeate everything we do, but start with our staff. At The Misbourne we acknowledge that teaching is a demanding profession and therefore looking after our staff is of highest priority. If you join our staff team, you will be part of a caring, kind and supportive group of professionals who really do share a sense of belonging and camaraderie. We actively look at ways to give staff time back, whether this be with our two week October half term, a flexible PPA which you can take at home every fortnight, or flexible use of gained time in the summer term.
We have a fully planned and resourced centralised curriculum across all subjects, meaning we do not expect teachers to go home and do individual planning. We have development time across the year so that curriculum teams can collaboratively plan and talk about teaching; continuing to develop professionally and reducing workload. We use the summer term to gain time to plan ahead, once again meaning that the summer holiday can indeed be a proper break from teaching. The Science department consists of 8 dedicated Science labs, each of which is well equipped to deliver specialist teaching through to A Level. Each lab contains a newly installed interactive Promethean board. The Science team consists of 13 members of teaching staff covering biology, chemistry and physics specialisms. Three experienced Science Technicians work with the teaching staff to provide our students with as many practical opportunities as possible. Staff wellbeing is a priority, therefore up-to-date shared lesson slides and other resources are available.
At KS3 a broad range of science topics are taught to provide the foundation knowledge required for success in the sciences. At GCSE we follow the AQA Triple Science and Trilogy Science courses. At A Level, Biology and Chemistry follow the OCR A specifications, Physics follows the AQA specification.
The Science department works closely with our excellent careers team to take the lead in a wide range of STEM opportunities for students.
