An exciting and unique opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as our Animal Facilities Technical Assistant! This casual position involves working across our Lilydale and Box Hill campuses on a rotating roster from Monday to Sunday.
The Technical Assistant - Animal Facilities will provide care and supervision for mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and organize veterinary examinations for any sick or injured animals in our care.
Your responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring all equipment and facilities are neat, clean, and compliant with manufacturers’ guidelines. You will also support students and staff during practical training sessions.
This role is part of the Science and Animal Studies team within the Faculty of Health, Disability, Community and Animal Sciences. The position requires professional collaboration with staff at all levels and liaising with external stakeholders such as clients, students, industry representatives, and suppliers.
About You :
* Relevant qualification in an animal-related field (or working towards one)
* Students enrolled in the Diploma of Animal Technology are encouraged to apply
* Recent industry experience in an animal facility, especially with rodents and rabbits
* Experience with reptiles and amphibians is advantageous
* Experience caring for animals in a facility setting
* Knowledge of compliance and administrative requirements, including WHS, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Animal Ethics
* Ability to support the setup, conduct, and cleanup of practical animal training sessions
* Team-oriented with good cooperation skills
* Comfortable working with animals such as rats, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, and reptiles
