Job Title: Senior Transport Planner - Development Planning Location: Birmingham, UK Salary: Competitive, based on experience Job Type: Full-time, Permanent About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Transport Planner to join our growing Development Planning team based in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the planning and delivery of sustainable transport solutions for a wide range of development projects across the Midlands and beyond. As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical work, supporting junior team members, and liaising with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders to help secure planning consent for major developments. Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver transport planning inputs for development planning projects, from feasibility through to planning and post-application support. Prepare and review Transport Assessments (TAs), Transport Statements (TSs), Travel Plans (TPs), Access Appraisals, and other technical reports. Undertake junction capacity modelling (e.g. using Junctions 10, LinSig, VISSIM) and strategic assessments. Support clients through the planning process, including attending meetings with local authorities, developers, architects, and other consultants. Mentor and supervise junior team members, providing technical guidance and quality assurance. Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard. Contribute to business development activities, including preparing fee proposals and supporting bids. Keep up to date with local and national transport planning policy and guidance. Key Requirements Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline. Significant experience (typically 5 years) in development-related transport planning, preferably within a consultancy environment. Strong understanding of the UK planning system and relevant transport guidance (e.g. NPPF, DfT documents, Local Plans). Proven experience in preparing technical reports to support planning applications. Proficient in transport modelling software (e.g. Junctions, LinSig, TRICS, TEMPro). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively. Chartered or working towards Chartered status (e.g. CTPP, MCIHT, MICE) is desirable.
