About the Opportunity
Staffordshire Police are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Health & Safety Co-ordinator. This is a fantastic opportunity to begin a career in health and safety, gaining hands-on experience in a professional policing environment while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Reporting to the H&S Manager you will support the Health & Safety Team in promoting a safe and healthy working environment for all police officers, staff, and visitors. From learning how to carry out risk assessments to helping with incident reporting and compliance checks, this apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge to develop a future career in H&S.
Key Responsibilities
1. Under direction of the Health and Safety Manager and Supported by the H&S Officer assist in implementing policies and procedures.
2. Assist in the development, review and documentation of general risk assessments to aid compliance with health and safety legislation.
3. Plan and arrange force wide audits for the H&S team. Assist in Health & Safety inspections and audits as requested, including administration of reports.
4. Conduct Display Screen Equipment and other risk assessments within the level of competence of the role.
5. Maintain accident, injury and near miss logs and prepare statistics for the H&S Manager to present to Senior Managers, committees, specialist consultative groups and working groups.
6. To assist in maintaining adequate information systems.
7. To work collaboratively with the wider Occupational Health Team.
8. Support by assisting with the development of H&S training programs with the prospect to present once competent.
9. Create and issues H&S communications e.g. newsletters, internal electrical comms, and good news stories.
10. Participate in H&S meeting and document minutes and actions, ensure all information is relied through-out the department.
11. To undertake such other duties appropriate to the post and grade as may be required from time to time once level 3 qualification is obtained
