About the role
Associate Mechanical Engineer based in either the Plymouth or Exeter office. The role involves leading large‑scale, complex projects, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring technical delivery.
Responsibilities
* Client‑facing role: attend project meetings and disseminate the brief to the team.
* Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects, ensuring solutions meet the brief and regulatory standards.
* Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in work either alone or as part of a team.
* Engage with junior support staff, offering advice and guidance to develop their skills.
* Participate in firm‑wide knowledge sharing and support dissemination of best practice.
* Help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered in collaboration with the team leader.
* Explore new ways of working and take time for innovation and research to stay ahead of competitors.
* Maintain a high reputation within the industry and ensure adherence to quality management and risk control procedures.
Qualifications and experience
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or closely related role on a variety of complex projects.
* Understanding of all mechanical services, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
* Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with excellent communication skills.
* Proficient with relevant software/tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
* Self‑awareness, open mind and spirit of generosity.
* Conversant with relevant British Standards.
* Consultancy experience, with appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering and computer modelling.
