Who are we looking for?
Freightliner Ltd is creating a new team at our locomotive depot in Crewe to deliver real quality to our maintenance function. As part of that team we are looking for two motivated Technical Engineers to monitor and drive quality maintenance practices, carry out technical investigations, lead modification roll outs and develop initiatives to improve reliability of our locomotive fleets.
The position is based at our depot in Crewe working a 4 on 4 off 12hr day shift pattern. The successful candidates will report to the Technical Engineering Manager whose team is responsible for quality and remote condition monitoring. The role of Technical Engineer has two direct reports, Shift Technical fitters, who support our production teams, helpline and provide a first line response to technical issues. The position also forms part of our second line on call engineering roster.
On your first day, we’ll expect you to have:
* Commitment to developing safe working practices.
* In depth knowledge and experience of locomotive or train maintenance.
* Experience in a Condition-Based Maintenance and/or a Reliability-Centred Maintenance Environment.
* Ability to drive Continuous Improvement to ensure we achieve our targets and standardise our processes across our depots.
What your main areas of responsibilities will be:
* Being a safety influencer by ensuring you and your team work safely at all times whilst always looking for opportunities to do things safer and more efficiently.
* Support the Technical Engineering Manager in analysing RCM system data to develop and enhance a condition-based maintenance approach across the fleet.
* Provide expert support to staff performing maintenance and repairs on company assets, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards.
* Conduct investigations into incidents, failures, and defects, producing detailed reports for the T&RS team as required.
* Develop fault‑finding guides for Maintenance and Operations staff (including Drivers) to help reduce locomotive downtime.
* Influence reliability improvements by analysing RCM data trends and collaborating with the Engineering function.
