Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the financial management of utility infrastructure projects from inception to completion. Your core duties will include:
* Developing and managing detailed cost estimates and project budgets
* Conducting thorough cost analysis and risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle
* Measuring, valuing, submitting, and negotiating contract variations
* Supporting procurement activities, including contractor and supplier selection
* Preparing tender documents, contracts, bills of quantities, and related documentation
* Monitoring project progress and producing financial reports for senior stakeholders
* Negotiating contracts and maintaining strong client relationships
* Ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory standards
* Leading post-completion audits and final account settlements
Key Experience
Essential:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, ideally within the utilities sector
* Proven track record in cost management for infrastructure projects (water, gas, electricity, telecoms)
* Strong working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts
* Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
* Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., RICS, ICES)
* Experience with project management and cost control software
* Background working with public utility companies or major contractors
