Overview
The post holder will join an experienced and well-established team working in mental health across Calderdale and Kirklees. The post is based on the Older Peoples Mental health ward in Calderdale. The candidate will work as a Specialist Physiotherapist with the ability to work independently and will form part of the wider MDT including OT, Nurses, therapy assistants, Doctors, Psychology, Speech and Language and HCAs. The post holder will supervise a part-time physiotherapy assistant and regular student physiotherapists from the University of Huddersfield. The Trust offers opportunities for continuing development and training alongside in-service training provided within each area.

Main duties of the job
The clinical work consists of providing a physiotherapy service to the Older Peoples Mental Health ward. Clinical work will cover assessments and interventions for mobility issues, neurology, falls, MSK and respiratory care. Supervision for the post will come from an experienced Senior Physiotherapy team with peer support from other Specialist Physiotherapists in the Trust. You will maintain a high standard of clinical work, comply with the clinical governance framework, and keep accurate and timely clinical records. You will be an effective member of the MDT and be able to work autonomously and as part of the physiotherapy team and wider MDT. There is an opportunity for an experienced Band 5 to undertake a development post with progression to a permanent Band 6 after achieving structured goals (approximately 12 months).

Job responsibilities (Key areas)
* Communication: record clinical observations in line with Trust policy; provide verbal and written clinical information to colleagues, service users and families; participate in case conferences, MDT meetings and service development initiatives; supervise junior staff and support workers.
* Personal and People Development: maintain HCPC registration, attend statutory training, develop a CPD plan, participate in supervision and appraisal, support student placements.
Person Specification
Essential
* Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Significant post-graduate physiotherapy experience across several service areas.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and related legislation (eg NICE guidelines, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act).
Desirable
* Knowledge of specialist treatment interventions (eg acupuncture, CBT).
* Driving license and access to a car (where applicable).
Qualifications
* Essential: Degree in Physiotherapy; HCPC Registration.
* Post-graduate education to diploma/post-graduate level or equivalent (essential).
* Desirable: Post-graduate study in relevant clinical specialty.
