Offer description

The job requirements are detailed below. Where applicable the skills, qualifications and memberships required for this job have also been included.

What will I be doing?

You’ll manage multiple projects at once, working with contractors and colleagues to deliver planned works safely, efficiently and to a high standard. This role offers clear development opportunities.

You’ll be responsible for managing and delivering a range of planned electrical and M&E works across social housing properties. Working as part of an experienced and supportive team, you’ll oversee programmes that include fire alarms, emergency lighting, door entry systems, warden call systems, fibre installations, and communal electrical testing and rewires.

You’ll work closely with external contractors and internal teams to plan, coordinate and monitor works on site, ensuring delivery meets agreed quality, cost and timescale expectations. A key part of your role will be monitoring contractor performance, building positive working relationships, and ensuring best value is achieved for residents and the Council.

You’ll also support procurement activity, working with colleagues to help develop specifications, tender documentation and supporting reports. You’ll manage project budgets, maintain accurate records and provide clear updates to your manager to support programme reporting and decision‑making.

Health and safety will be central to everything you do. You’ll ensure works are delivered in line with statutory requirements, including CDM regulations, and that electrical compliance and safety information is accurate, complete and well managed. You’ll take a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities for improvement, helping to continuously enhance the service we provide.

What do I need to have?

You’ll have a strong background in electrical engineering or building services, combined with the confidence to manage projects, contractors and competing priorities.

You’ll hold a recognised engineering qualification equivalent to Degree or HNC level in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline, or be able to demonstrate extensive and relevant practical experience. Membership of a professional body is welcomed but not essential.

You’ll have experience of electrical maintenance or installation work, ideally within social housing or a similar environment, and a good understanding of systems such as emergency lighting, fire alarms or door entry. You’ll be comfortable managing contracts and projects, with a sound understanding of compliance and health and safety responsibilities.

You’ll be able to work with budgets and data, producing accurate information to support reporting and decision‑making. Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll need to build effective relationships with contractors, colleagues and stakeholders. You’ll also bring a proactive mindset, using your initiative to identify improvements and contribute to a continually improving service.
