Job Summary
The Anaesthetics department at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of services across multiple sites, including general surgery, upper GI surgery, colorectal surgery, ENT, urology and breast surgery. The role is available as a 12‑month fixed term or permanent specialty doctor, based at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
Principal Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day care and management of patients across the department.
* Anaesthetise patients in theatre for elective and emergency cases, under direct or indirect consultant supervision.
* Provide anaesthetic support in the Intensive Care Unit, including on‑call duties.
* Support obstetric units with anaesthetic care, including on‑call commitments.
* Offer advice and support to junior staff and other clinical teams.
* Use flexible working hours to meet departmental needs, including out‑of‑normal hours as required.
Working Pattern
Full‑time with a full on‑call rota (1:8 prospective cover) covering both Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals.
Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full GMC registration at the time of appointment.
* Evidence of four years (full time equivalent) postgraduate training in the UK, with at least two years in a relevant anaesthetic specialty.
* Demonstrated competence at ST1/CT1 level and the likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 specialist competence.
* Ability to anaesthetise ASA I‑III patients for a broad range of non‑complex procedures in both elective and emergency settings.
* Audit participation and evidence of active contribution to quality improvement.
* For preferred candidates: teaching experience or interest in teaching.
