Our Vision
Music is a big part of life for everyone at The Greville ! Children enjoy specialist music teaching throughout the school and there is a very high level of participation in extra-curricular activities, including a “thriving orchestra” (Ofsted, 2025), choirs, recorder groups, ukulele group and over 200 children having instrumental tuition as individuals or pairs.
We are looking for an energetic and inspiring individual to continue this tradition within a classroom facility with excellent resources for primary music making. Ideally 4 days a week, however 5 days would be considered. Grade range will be dependant on experience and could be either TMS or UPR.
The position includes teaching, music assemblies and PPA, plus time for:
1. encouraging instrumental tuition in year 4 and above, liaising with external peripatetic music teachers, and managing the school’s bank of instruments for free loan to pupils
2. planning, delivering and supporting others in the delivery of extra-curricular musical activities
3. organising concerts and other performance opportunities in school and in the community.
Main purpose
4. To plan, deliver and assess high-quality music education across Reception and Key Stages 1 and 2 in line with the National Curriculum for Music
5. To foster pupils’ musical skills, creativity, confidence and enjoyment of music
6. To lead music enrichment outside of the curriculum
7. To ensure that music plays a key part in establishing the culture of the school, and upholding our values of resilience, respect, responsibility and kindness
Duties and responsibilities
8. Curriculum Delivery
9. Teach pupils to perform using voice and instruments
10. Develop attentive listening skills and musical vocabulary
11. Teach composition and improvisation using the inter-related dimensions of music
12. Introduce pupils to a wide range of musical styles, traditions and historical periods
13. Teach age-appropriate notation and understanding of musical structure and processes
Teaching and Learning
14. Plan engaging and progressive lessons for Reception to Year 6
15. Adapt teaching to meet the diverse learning needs, using a range of teaching strategies
16. Maintain high expectations for participation and behaviour
Assessment and Progress
17. Assess pupils against National Curriculum expectations.
18. Monitor and record progress in musical skills and knowledge
19. Provide feedback to support improvement and confidence
20. Reporting on pupils’ progress in music
Enrichment and Wider School Life
21. Lead singing assemblies
22. Lead musical aspects of whole-school and year-group activities such as celebrations, assemblies, services and shows
23. Plan, deliver and encourage engagement with extra-curricular musical activities including the orchestra and school choirs
24. Recruit and support other members of staff to lead extra-curricular activities
25. Encourage instrumental tuition in the juniors, liaising with external peripatetic music teachers,
26. Managing the school’s bank of 70 instruments for free loan to pupils
27. Organise concerts and other performance opportunities in school and in the community
28. Organise music trips and workshops
Professional Responsibilities
29. Work collaboratively with colleagues and school leadership

Person Specification
Essential:
33. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
34. Secure knowledge of the Early Years and Primary Music National Curriculum
35. Ability to teach music across Early Years, KS1 and KS2
36. Confidence in leading singing and music-making
37. Demonstrated understanding of Music to degree level or equivalent
38. Competence in at least one musical instrument, including at least intermediate piano
Desirable:
39. Experience of leading music ensembles
40. Familiarity with music technology
