Job Description:
Halfords is rapidly transforming into a digital services business. Besides being a leading UK retailer, it has developed a market-leading field service management platform that enables businesses to deliver complex services through an end-to-end digital solution. This platform is deployed across Halfords stores, garages, and mobile units. Now, it is being marketed globally to other industries, enabling them to provide exceptional service and customer experience. This SaaS division, called Avayler, is marketed in the UK, Europe, and the US. We have a talented technology team that has developed the platform, supported by experienced sales, product, and marketing teams, led by industry veterans. With the launch of our platform and key clients like ATD in North America and ATU in EMEA, we are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer.
This role offers a start-up environment without the associated risks, backed by a successful PLC. The business is in its early stages but has high demand in the industry across EMEA and the US. Joining our team means contributing to shaping the company's brand and ethos, with the financial security of being part of Halfords Group PLC, a 125-year-old, $2bn annual revenue, FTSE-listed company.
We are looking for a skilled software engineer to work within our agile, product-focused squads. Your role will involve expanding our API-driven web and mobile applications to deliver cost-effective, reliable, and convenient services to our customers.
What You Will Be Doing:
* Collaborating within a close-knit squad to develop high-quality software products
* Writing comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure quality
* Designing reusable components to facilitate future development, balancing technical gains with customer benefits
* Participating in all phases of the software delivery lifecycle, focusing on quality and efficiency
* Engaging with professional communities to enhance skills and technology use
What You Need to Succeed:
* Commercial experience with .NET and C#
* Experience with unit and integration testing tools such as MS Test, nUnit, xUnit, and Postman
* Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
* Understanding of microservices architecture and API development, especially RESTful APIs
* Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
* Proactive problem-solving skills for technical and product issues
* Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) is desirable but not mandatory
