Field Engineer (Telecommunications – SPEN Project)
Location: Central Belt of Scotland (Field Based)
Contract Type: Contract (outside IR35)
Day Rate: £350 per day (vehicle & fuel card provided)
Shifts: 4 on / 4 off days, 4 on / 4 off nights, weekend cover, and on-call as required
About the Role
We're looking for experienced Field Engineers to support a critical telecommunications project across the Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) estate. This role involves delivering provide and assure activities across utility telecoms networks, working in high-voltage environments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
You'll be expected to cover the central belt of Scotland, travelling daily to SPEN sites. A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided for business use.
Key Responsibilities
* Installation, commissioning, and assurance of telecoms equipment (Commtel/SDH/PDH/Radio/Xtran).
* Maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of IP, WAN, LAN, and MPLS networks.
* Provide 1st line support on a 24/7/365 basis, adhering to SLA targets.
* Support project delivery, ensuring compliance with quality, health & safety, and documentation standards.
* Liaise with stakeholders, providing timely updates and reporting.
* Participate in on-call rota (currently 1 week in 7, moving to a 4-on/4-off model).
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Proven track record in telecoms field engineering (installation & commissioning).
* Strong knowledge of routing, switching, and IP networking.
* Experience supporting DC Charger, PDH, SDH, Commtel, Microwave radio technologies.
* Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Teams).
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable (training can be provided):
* Scottish Power authorisations.
* National Grid authorisations.
* NRSWA / EUSR.
* IOSH / Emergency First Aid.
* DC/AC competency certification.
* Previous experience in substations (11kV – 400kV).
