Medical Secretary - Cancer Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our cancer services secretarial team.
The role of Medical Secretary provides support to the consultants, specialist nurses and other medical staff across Haematology and Oncology.
Responsibilities
* Maintain a high standard of secretarial service to meet the needs of the clinical team.
* Ensure accurate and up-to-date typing of clinic letters and correspondence from audio/digital dictation.
* Respond to queries from patients, GPs and other medical teams regarding patient care.
* Observe and work within the Trust's Confidentiality Policy at all times.
* Ensure the smooth running of the office/team including assessment of priorities and initiation of preparatory action.
* Ensure results of tests and investigations for patients are received, shown to medical staff and relevant ongoing arrangements carried out.
* Assist the Senior Medical Secretary with arranging and servicing meetings.
* Using the in-house patient data tracking system ensure all patient case notes passing through the office are booked in and out appropriately.
* Work within defined national and local targets (e.g., 18 weeks) and monitor regularly, identifying potential breaches to the Senior Medical Secretary.
* Provide cover for the Senior Medical Secretary during periods of annual leave and absence within contracted hours.
* Assist in the coordination of outpatient clinics and booked/planned admissions applicable to speciality.
Experience
* 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English, at Grade C or above.
* Typing and secretarial experience.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and other IT skills acquired through training and practical experience, including internet/Web skills.
* Association of Medical Secretaries Diploma or equivalent.
* NHS Experience.
* NVQ 2 Business Administration.

Salary
£25,760 to £27,476 a year per annum pro rata.
