Bank - Environmental Waste Operative

The designation of Environmental Services Officer applies to a self‑motivated member of the workforce. Their duties are to ensure that day‑to‑day handling and disposal of waste is in accordance with approved practices. The Environmental Services Officer will be employed to cover any post on any shift in the team. Collecting waste and or laundry from areas around the hospital and transport it to the Trust's Waste Transfer Stations or waste storage points. They will join an integrated team responsible for all waste and laundry collection/storage and external litter collection together with any other environmental service as determined by the Environmental Services Manager.


Main duties of the job

All Environmental Services Officers in the Capital Planning and EstatesManagement Department will form part of an integrated team whose role is to provide the best possible service to the Trust. Environmental Services Officers will have both group and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service but each will ensure their contribution is beneficial to other departments within the Trust, as well as the Capital Planning and Estates Management Department, so as to fulfil the Trust's overall objectives.

Job responsibilities

Based on the above job definition a member of Environmental Services must have the ability to use initiative and fulfil with total commitment, versatility and flexibility, a requirement to: -

1. Collect all hospital waste and laundry in accordance with the schedulesset by the Environmental Services Manager.
2. Segregate, transport and process specific categories of waste asdictated by the Trusts Policy for the Management of Waste.
3. To operate the Trusts electric vehicles, bulk waste compactionmachines and road sweeper.
4. To ensure that all aspects of the Waste Licence Conditions areadhered to.
5. Place specific categories of waste in the appropriate skip for off sitedisposal or recycling, as indicated by the Environmental ServicesManager.


Qualifications

* GCSE or other qualifications/equivalent
* Electric Vehicle Driver License or pass an electric vehicle course.
* Full Driving License


Experience

* Working as part of a team
* Working with the public
* Experience of waste management / handling activities
* Experience of operating electric vehicles or other plant.


Other

* Willingness to learn.


Skills

* Have good verbal communication skills.
