Our client, an established aerospace engineering consultancy firm, requires an experienced Lead FPGA Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team.
The Lead FPGA Engineer will be responsible for the success of the engineering activities within an Integrated FPGA Product Team or one of the products within an FPGA Product Line.
Please note we can only consider sole UK Nationals (no dual nationalities)
Responsibilities of the Lead FPGA Engineer:
1. Manage an FPGA Engineering Team to deliver project outcomes.
2. Ensure FPGA engineering activities are well planned, costed, and scheduled, following best practices with appropriate resource plans.
3. Work with the Engineering Manager to ensure a well-documented Engineering Plan is in place and followed.
4. Report on progress of the Engineering plan as needed.
5. Ensure the FPGA Engineering team follows an effective Life Cycle Management Process and leads Design Reviews.
6. Oversee project completion to meet quality, cost, and schedule targets, with accurate performance reporting.
7. Maintain effective communication with PEM and PM, reporting status and risks.
8. Collaborate with FPGA & Systems Design Authorities on technical progress and risks, requesting support when needed.
9. Support engineering reviews and team briefs with the PEM.
10. Assist the team with technical queries and troubleshooting.
Required experience for the successful Lead FPGA Engineer:
1. At least 10 years’ experience developing FPGA using VHDL or Verilog.
2. Proven experience in FPGA engineering management and project delivery.
3. Engineering or scientific Degree qualification (or equivalent).
4. Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear direction.
5. Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgment.
6. Experience across the full FPGA development life cycle.
7. Familiarity with latest FPGA device families and verification methodologies.
8. Experience with Mentor Graphics FPGA tools including HDL Designer, ModelSim / Questa, and Precision.
9. Knowledge of Xilinx / Intel (Altera) / Microsemi (Actel) design flows and third-party synthesis tools.
10. Ability to analyze system/hardware requirements and derive FPGA requirements.
11. Experience with FPGA requirements management tools.
12. Skills in debugging FPGA designs and supporting integration & verification at hardware and system levels.
13. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
14. Practical experience with agile methodologies.
