Role: Lecturer – English

Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

This is a UK based contract, and you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer sponsorship and any offer of employment will be subject to evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in English to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. High‑Quality English Teaching & Learner Progression– Deliver inclusive, engaging English teaching across a range of levels and programmes, enabling learners to achieve strong outcomes and progress to positive destinations.
2. Assessment, Support & Learner Engagement – Assess and track learner progress effectively, provide timely feedback and tutorials, and promote positive behaviour, attendance and independent learning.
3. Curriculum Development & Quality Improvement – Contribute to curriculum innovation and review, participate in QA processes, and support continuous improvement aligned to Ofsted EIF, funding priorities and skills needs.
4. Collaboration, Inclusion & Professional Practice – Work collaboratively with colleagues, Learning Coaches, employers and stakeholders, promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and British Values in all aspects of provision.
5. Professional Responsibilities & Compliance – Complete administrative duties accurately, support marketing and recruitment events, engage in CPD, and uphold safeguarding, health & safety and college policies, with additional leadership duties where qualified.

About you:

6. Qualifications & Subject Expertise – Degree or Level 5 qualification in English, GCSE English and maths (Grade 4/C+), with a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed) or willingness to achieve.
7. English Teaching & Learner Outcomes – Recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English, with strong classroom management skills and a proven ability to motivate learners and support positive outcomes.
8. Curriculum Delivery & Digital Practice – Skilled in planning and delivering engaging learning using blended and digital approaches, with up‑to‑date knowledge of FE reform and developments in English education.
9. Collaboration, Organisation & Communication – Highly organised with strong administrative, communication and teamwork skills, able to work across departments, meet deadlines and value others’ contributions.
10. Professional Values, Safeguarding & Flexibility – Committed to College values, safeguarding and health & safety, reflective in practice, flexible in working patterns and locations, with a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Bedford College has a number of sites across the town and surrounding areas, these include our main Cauldwell Street campus in the heart of the town, our hair and beauty salon on the High Street, the advanced automotive centre on Brunel Road and the gas and technology plumbing centre in Kempston.
