The Cambridge Breast Unit (CBU) is seeking to appoint a confident, experienced, and highly motivated Lead Band 8a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team lead. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive team dedicated to delivering high-quality care to both in‑ and out‑patients across the breast cancer (including reconstructive onco‑plastics) and breast screening pathways.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and coordinate care for patients referred through suspected cancer pathways or those recalled after breast screening, ensuring adequate CNS staffing and skill mix.
* Act as a patient advocate in MDT discussions, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Run independent nurse‑led clinics that require a high level of clinical knowledge and autonomous decision‑making, whilst multitasking and prioritising clinical care effectively.
* Undertake key managerial and leadership duties including budgeting, recruitment and selection of staff, development of specialty business cases, line‑management of existing B7 staff, ensuring timely appraisals and development of staff with clear, measurable KPIs.
* Promote a culture of compassionate leadership, a positive culture, and actively address poor performance.
* Lead service delivery, transformation and service improvement initiatives, including producing annual reports for the team.
Qualifications & Experience
* Previous breast care or oncology experience is essential.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and make independent clinical decisions.
