Job Title: SEND Assistant (Online Teacher)
Reports to: Head of Teaching and Learning.
Job Description
The Assistant SEND coordinator assists in managing the provision for learners identified as having Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at our online alternative provision (OAP). You will assist the SEND Lead in managing the SEND provision; including promoting high quality teaching and learning, effective use of time and resources and high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
* To assist the SEND Lead in leading the provision for SEND across our online platform.
* To support the SEND Lead in the identification, assessment and categorisation of learners with SEND, working closely with teachers and external specialists.
* To ensure we are receiving Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP) and One Page Profiles (OPP) from schools for learners with SEND.
* Ensure we are following advice as detailed in EHCP's and OPP's to support learners with SEND.
* Develop systems and ways of communicating effectively between schools, parents, learners and teachers to support learners with SEND effectively.
* Advise and support teachers in delivering effective learning programmes that meet the individual needs of learners with SEND, including the use of assistive technologies.
* Build positive and professional relationships with parents/carers of learners with SEND, providing information, advice and support.
* Attend review meetings with school/ parents to support our learners with SEND needs to fulfil their potential and prepare paperwork
* Liaise with external agencies such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and other support services to ensure learners receive a holistic package of support.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the SEND provision, identifying areas for improvement and implementing change.
* Contribute to the professional development of staff in relation to SEND.
* Developing the curriculum in your subject area
* Supporting and teaching our learners whilst they are in the online classroom.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience working with learners with SEND.
* A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and other relevant legislation and guidance.
* Proven experience in leading and managing the SEND provision in an educational setting.
* Excellent knowledge and experience of a variety of SEND strategies and interventions.
* Strong assessment skills and experience in developing and maintaining IEPs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners, parents/carers, and colleagues.
* Experience of working in an online learning environment.
* A commitment to inclusion and a passion for ensuring all learners with SEND have the opportunity to succeed.
Desirable Criteria
* Any subject specialism, however one of the following would be preferred: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, PE.
* Experience of delivering training to a team of staff.
* Knowledge of assistive technologies for learners with SEND.
* A relevant SEND qualification (e.g., National Award in SEN Coordination).
