Salary: £40 - £55k, Dependent on Experience, Plus Bonus

About Us:
We are a dynamic and forward-thinking small conservation practice based in the heart of Cumbria, specialising in the restoration, conservation, and surveying of historic buildings in rural and heritage-rich environments. We are looking for a skilled Chartered Building Surveyor to join our growing team and work on exciting conservation projects throughout the stunning landscapes of Cumbria. We also have a high-profile client in rural Lancashire and therefore you would be expected to work in these areas as well.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Chartered Building Surveyor with at least 2 years post-qualification experience to focus on delivering high-quality conservation and surveying services. The successful candidate will be involved in carrying out up to Level 3 house surveys (Full Building Surveys) on properties across rural Cumbria. This will include detailed inspections, condition reports, and recommendations for conservation, repair, and maintenance work. You will also advise clients on conservation matters and run projects from inception to completion with design and specification knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct Level 3 Building Surveys of residential properties, including historic and listed buildings.
* Provide expert advice on the conservation, repair, and maintenance of traditional buildings.
* Produce detailed reports and schedules of work in line with industry standards.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and heritage bodies to ensure compliance with conservation regulations.
* Produce Building Regulations drawings and specification.
* Assist with the preparation of conservation statements and heritage impact assessments.
* Work on a range of projects from small private homes to larger heritage sites.
* Able to work as contract administrator for small – medium projects.
About You:
* At least 2 years post-qualification experience in building surveying, with a strong focus on conservation and heritage buildings where possible.
* A relevant qualification in building surveying (RICS accredited or equivalent).
* Membership with the RICS.
* Experience with Level 3 surveys, including the ability to assess the condition of period and listed buildings.
* Knowledge of conservation principles and best practices.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A keen interest in rural architecture and heritage conservation.
* A full UK driving license and own car (mileage paid).
* Experience working with local authorities and heritage agencies.
* Familiarity with CAD software and other surveying tools.
* An understanding of sustainable practices in building conservation.
