We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Working Gas Supervisor to join our team in Sheffield.
This role is ideal for an experienced and highly competent Gas Engineer who is ready to step into a leadership position while remaining technically hands-on. The successful candidate will lead from the front — managing engineers while personally completing complex jobs and attending any works requiring two or more visits to ensure efficient resolution and strong first-time fix performance.
The Working Supervisor will support the Contract Manager and Gas Manager in delivering operational excellence, strong client relationships, and consistent KPI performance across the contract.
Role Overview
This is a dual-function role combining:
* Operational Supervision
* Hands-on Technical Delivery
* Performance & Compliance Oversight
You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of engineers while personally undertaking:
* Complex technical works
* Escalated problem jobs
* Any job requiring two or more visits
* QA inspections and technical sign-off
* Call out where needed to support team
Key Responsibilities
Technical / Working Supervisor Duties
* Attend and complete complex diagnostic and repair works.
* Take ownership of all jobs requiring two or more visits to drive resolution.
* Support engineers on technical challenges in the field.
* Undertake site surveys and assist with pricing where required.
* Carry out Quality Assurance (QA) inspections.
* Review and approve certification.
* Ensure all works meet Gas Safe, regulatory and company standards.
Resources – Direct Labour
* Support recruitment and development of directly employed engineers.
* Build strong and effective working relationships within the team.
* Monitor performance against client KPIs.
* Ensure consistent quality, presentation and performance across the workforce.
Engineer Planning & Utilisation
* Work closely with the planning and administration teams to maximise engineer productivity.
* Monitor daily workloads to prevent unnecessary out-of-hours working.
* Support effective allocation of labour in line with forecasted workflow and budgets.
Materials & Equipment Control
* Monitor materials and parts usage.
* Manage van stock control.
* Conduct regular van stock audits.
* Support improved first-time fix through effective stock management.
Day-to-Day Supervision
* Directly manage the day-to-day activities of operatives under company control.
* Monitor and review engineer KPIs including:
* First Time Fix
* First Time Access
* Parts Usage
* Productivity
* Mentor and develop engineers to improve technical capability and performance.
Timesheets & Commercial Oversight
* Review and approve engineer timesheets and piece rate claims.
* Assist with preparing documentation required for invoicing.
* Support cost control across labour and materials.
Performance & Client Reporting
* Attend client contract review meetings.
* Prepare and present performance data where required.
* Provide QA and operational reports as necessary.
Business Growth & Development
* Work alongside senior management to identify opportunities with existing and new clients.
* Support contract retention and service improvements through strong operational performance.
Essential Requirements
* ACS Gas Accredited Certification (Current).
* Proven experience as a qualified Gas Engineer.
* Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capability.
* Experience mentoring or supervising engineers (desirable).
* Strong knowledge of compliance, certification and gas safety regulations.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
