Cranleigh STEM is working with a dynamic and fast-growing business at the forefront of sustainable specialty chemicals, where innovation meets real-world impact. With a clear focus on supplying the food sector, this company is driving advances in greener manufacturing practices and efficient chemical processing. As they scale their operations in Oxford, they are now seeking an experienced Electrical Design & Control Engineer to support the delivery of new manufacturing projects and the optimisation of existing plant systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team and contribute to process development, automation design, and continuous improvement initiatives within a purpose-driven organisation. Electrical Design & Controls Engineer Responsibilities: Design, develop, and commission electrical and control systems for new process and manufacturing equipment. Work closely with project, process, and mechanical engineers to integrate automation and electrical design into wider engineering projects. Produce detailed electrical design documentation, including P&IDs, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and functional specifications. Specify, select, and procure electrical and control components, including PLCs, instrumentation, and safety systems. Support the implementation of control strategies using PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley) and SCADA/HMI systems. Ensure compliance with relevant UK electrical standards (e.g., BS7671), health and safety regulations, and ATEX requirements where applicable. Participate in factory and site acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of new systems. Contribute to the development and maintenance of site-wide electrical standards and continuous improvement practices. Electrical Design & Controls Engineer Requirements: Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proven experience in industrial electrical design and automation, ideally within the chemical, food, or process manufacturing sectors. Strong working knowledge of PLC programming, industrial instrumentation, and control system integration. Familiarity with UK electrical regulations and safety standards; experience in hazardous environments (e.g., ATEX) is a plus. Able to read and develop engineering documentation such as P&IDs, wiring schematics, and control philosophies. Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach to engineering challenges. Strong team player with good communication and coordination abilities across multi-disciplinary teams
