About the recipient

Applicants required to work with a 9-year-old boy with complex health needs. This young person does have access to a wheelchair due his limited mobility need, he also has no sense of danger therefore needing full supervision within the community.

This young boy is a lovely and sociable and adores meeting new faces and building up relationships. Once he has had built a good relationship up with someone he loves to interact and play games with them. He also enjoys accessing the local community but will have to build trust with the worker in the home environment first as he see that as his safe space.

This young person adores animals and enjoys going to pet shops or similar to look at all the animals. He also enjoys going to the local parks so he can feed the ducks or visiting the local harbour so he can watch the boats.

Applicants will need to be patient, consistent and have experience of working with SEN. Applicants will also be comfortable with personal care as some of the hours will be on weekday mornings to assist with his morning routine. The ability to work weekends will also be essential as some hours will be then.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.
2. Helping to improve their social skills.
3. Settling and supporting the individual.
4. Keeping them safe in the community.
5. Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
6. Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
7. Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.

About the candidate

The suitable candidate must:

8. Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
9. Be patient, caring and understanding.
10. Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
11. Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
12. Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.
