About Dorset County Hospital
Our busy, modern hospital provides a full range of district general services, including an accident and emergency department, and links with satellite units in five community hospitals. We serve a population of around 210,000 in Weymouth, Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset, and Purbeck, and provide renal services for a total population of 850,000 in Dorset and South Somerset.
Our staff of 3,000 work across various settings including GP surgeries, schools, residential homes, and patients' homes. The hospital has approximately 400 beds, seven main theatres, and two day theatres, with a focus on public arts in hospital design.
Role Overview
Join a team of four microbiology consultants to provide comprehensive microbiology, virology, and infection control services. Responsibilities include sharing roles such as infection control, antibiotic stewardship, laboratory lead, and clinical lead on a rotational basis. Contribute to quality improvement and work collaboratively within a supportive team.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT in Microbiology or Infectious Diseases. Specialist Grade applicants should have comparable experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality microbiology, virology, and infection control services.
* Undertake rotational roles including infection control, antibiotic stewardship, laboratory, and clinical leadership.
* Engage in continuous quality improvement and service development.
* Work effectively within a team environment.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* Higher qualification such as FRCPath, MRCP, or equivalent.
Experience & Skills
* Equivalent to UK CCT in Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases with a minimum of 10 years of medical experience, including 5 in relevant infection specialties.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions and work independently.
Teamwork & Leadership
* Effective leadership and team development skills.
* Experience in service development and management.
Clinical Governance & Research
* Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and research principles.
Management & Strategic Skills
* Relevant management training and NHS organizational knowledge.
Teaching & Communication
* Experience in teaching, organizing educational activities, and effective communication skills.
