Costs Lawyer/Draftsperson - Fixed Term Contract (9-12 months)
Join our Core Services team and make a splash in commercial costs
Are you a skilled costs professional looking for an exciting opportunity to work with high-quality commercial clients? We're seeking an experienced Costs Lawyer or Costs Draftsperson to join our collaborative team on a 9-12 month fixed-term contract.
What you'll be doing
You'll be working closely with Rachael Waring and our Core Services team, led by partner Ian Tucker, delivering costs services to our commercial clients. This isn't just about drafting – you'll be a strategic thinker who engages with senior lawyers and embraces technology to deliver the best outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing bills of costs, Form N260 and Precedent H for civil litigation matters
* Handling solicitor and client costs queries as well as third-party costs
* Inquiry costs caseload
* Working predominantly on commercial litigation (non-personal injury focus)
* Supporting and supervising a small team of paralegals (3 people)
* Collaborating with our Legal Project Management team
* Bringing fresh thinking and innovation to our costs practice
What we're looking for
For Costs Lawyers:
* Qualified costs lawyer with strong knowledge of costs law and practice
* Experience in civil/commercial litigation costs
* Strategic mindset with excellent client engagement skills
For Costs Draftspeople:
* 5+ years' experience in costs drafting
* Solid understanding of costs law and practice
* Experience in commercial litigation environments
* High degree of self-motivation and initiative
* Strong leadership and supervisory skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with senior lawyers and support teams
What we offer
This role offers genuine flexibility – we're open to discussing part-time arrangements (3 or 4 days per week) and hybrid working, with expectation of semi-regular presence in the Bristol office. Our London and Edinburgh offices are also available for flexible working.
You'll join our fresh-thinking firm where quality work and quality of life go hand in hand. Our collaborative culture means you'll be supported by brilliant colleagues while having the opportunity to make a real impact on our practice.
As a Disability Confident employer, we will provide a fully accessible recruitment process. We encourage applications from people of all background and identities to apply.
