We are seeking a skilled and reliable Welder / Mechanical Fabricator to join our team. This role is essential to maintaining the safety, efficiency, and productivity of the farm by carrying out high-quality welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair work across a wide range of equipment and structures. The ideal candidate will have strong practical problem-solving abilities, experience working with machinery, and the confidence to diagnose issues, fabricate solutions, and keep equipment in excellent working order. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who can work independently, respond quickly to breakdowns, and deliver durable, high-standard repairs.
Key Duties will include but not limited to:
Welding & Fabrication Responsibilities:
* Perform routine and emergency welding repairs within the milking parlour, ensuring all metal components, supports, railings, and fittings remain safe and functional
* Diagnose faults and damage on farm machinery and equipment, carrying out effective mechanical and welding repairs to restore functionality and minimise downtime
* Fabricate, install, and repair gates, hinges, brackets, and other metal fixtures across livestock areas and farm buildings
* Fabricate mechanical components including brackets, mounts, hinges, and structural supports
* Fabricate, repair, or modify beds, handrails, safety guards, and similar metal structures
* Adapt and alter farm machinery or structures to meet specific operational requirements, creating custom modifications that improve functionality, efficiency, or suitability
* Strengthen and reinforce critical components of machinery, equipment, and structures through precision welding, ensuring added durability and reducing the risk of breakdowns
Basic Mechanical Responsibilities:
* Assess broken machinery components to determine repair feasibility and complete repairs when possible
* Replace worn mechanical parts such as bearings, bushings, seals, bolts, and pins
* Straighten bent frames or components prior to welding or reassembly
* Conduct preventative maintenance by inspecting machinery for early signs of wear, fatigue, or strain.
Skills and Experience:
* Proven experience in welding, metal fabrication, and repair work (MIG, TIG, stick preferred)
* Understanding of basic mechanical systems, including hydraulics and bearings
* Ability to diagnose faults, assess damage, and determine the best repair approach
* Skilled in using welding tools, grinders, cutters, presses, and general workshop equipment
* Ability to fabricate custom parts from drawings or measurements
* Competence in repairing and modifying machinery and metal structures
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
* Valid driver's licence
* Strong communication skills and a reliable, proactive work ethic
This position is working Monday – Friday 8.30 – 17.00 with a 30-minute unpaid break.
This is a permanent role and the salary is £38,000 - £40,000pa.
