SEMH Teaching Assistant : Randstad Education

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary/Secondary)

Location:Colchester

Hours: Flexible, Part:Time or Full:Time

Contract Type: Temporary, Long Term

About the Role

Randstad Education is seeking resilient, empathetic, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs across schools in Colchester. This role is vital for students who require additional guidance to manage their emotions and engage with their learning. You will work closely with vulnerable learners, providing the stability and support they need to succeed in a classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

*

Provide 1:to:1 or small group support for students with SEMH needs and associated behavioral challenges.
*

Implement de:escalation strategies to manage challenging behavior safely and effectively.
*

Foster a nurturing environment where students feel safe to express their emotions.
*

Collaborate with SENCOs and class teachers to follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
*

Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback on emotional triggers and breakthroughs.
*

Act as a positive role model, building rapport and trust with students who may find traditional authority figures challenging.

Requirements

*

Experience supporting children with SEMH, ADHD, Autism, or behavioral difficulties is highly desirable.
*

A calm, patient, and resilient temperament:the ability to stay composed under pressure is essential.
*

Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
*

Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, Psychology degree, or Youth Work experience) are an advantage.
*

Enhanced DBS check (on the update service) and satisfactory references are mandatory.
