Learning & Development Trainer

Role Overview

The Learning & Development (L&D) Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality training initiatives to support the professional and personal development of the firm's lawyers and business services colleagues. The role will focus on both technical and soft skills training, ensuring alignment with the firm's strategic goals, regulatory requirements, and culture of excellence. The L&D Trainer will also provide supervisory oversight and guidance to the E-Learning Developer, ensuring digital learning resources complement and enhance face-to-face and blended learning programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery & Design

* Deliver engaging, effective training sessions (in-person and virtual) across a range of professional, technical, and interpersonal skills.
* Collaborate with legal and business teams to identify training needs and design bespoke solutions.
* Develop training materials, toolkits, and resources that are practical, accessible, and relevant to the legal sector.
* Ensure training content reflects industry best practice and complies with professional regulatory requirements.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes through feedback, reports, assessments, and performance outcomes, making improvements where required.

Supervision & E-Learning Oversight

* Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and mentoring to the E-Learning Developer.
* Oversee the development of digital learning solutions, ensuring quality, accuracy, and consistency with the firm's standards.
* Ensure integration of digital learning resources with classroom training to deliver a blended learning approach.
* Support the E-Learning Developer's professional growth and development.

Operational Responsibilities

* Supervise the full L&D life cycle from induction, internal communications to evaluation and reporting. Keeping accurate training records and ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements.
* Build strong relationships across the business to understand training needs.
* Manage relationships with external training providers and be the point of liaison in the business.
* Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the firm at the forefront of L&D practices.
* Manage allocated training budgets effectively and report on ROI of learning initiatives.

Skills & Experience

* Proven experience in an L&D training role, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
* Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage audiences at all levels.
* Experience designing learning content and programmes, including soft skills.
* Knowledge of digital learning platforms, with the ability to oversee e-learning design and implementation.
* Previous supervisory or mentoring experience desirable.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.

Qualifications

* Degree level or equivalent experience.
* Learning & Development or training qualifications (e.g., CIPD, LPI, TAP) desirable.
* Familiarity with legal professional development requirements (e.g., SRA, BAR standards) advantageous.
