Marine Water Quality Officer – 32656
Join the Environment Agency team as a Marine Water Quality Officer. This role supports evidence‑based decision making in marine and coastal waters, applying technical expertise in marine environments, modelling, and data analysis.
Overview
As part of Operations Catchment Services, you will work across key areas, including Nuclear New Build, major infrastructure projects and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. You will also model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries. The role is available in two positions – one permanent and one fixed term for six months – and you can work flexibly with virtual team tools and occasional national travel.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions for stakeholders.
* Review complex reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, escalating challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to team projects and wider organisational goals.
* Take part in incident response duties, receiving full training and support.
Key Skills & Experience
* Experience in data analysis and knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages (e.g., Mike, Cormix) is an advantage.
* Strong written and verbal communication for non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to work in a virtual team environment and travel for national meetings.
* Comfortable with records management principles.
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; working towards professional membership is desirable.
