Consultant Psychiatrist, Orion Ward – Silverwood (attracts £25K Recruitment & Retention Payment).
We are seeking a compassionate and forward-thinking Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Orion Ward at Silverwood Hospital, Chertsey, Surrey. You will provide clinical input and leadership, working with a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working, triaging referrals daily, and completing initial assessments while liaising with other professionals.
Responsibilities
* Deliver consultant psychiatric input to inpatients admitted to the ward according to the Acute Service Operational Policy.
* Provide clinical leadership and engage in service improvement activities.
* Collaborate with colleagues from other professional disciplines and ensure care handovers across Surrey NHS teams.
* Participate in triaging referrals, performing initial assessments, and liaising with other teams as part of the patient pathway.
* Support flexible working arrangements where operationally possible to promote a healthy work‑life balance.
Our Offer
* Salary: NHS Consultant Grade £109,725 – £145,478 plus £149 Fringe Allowance
* Recruitment & Retention Payment: £25,000 (subject to policy requirements)

Requirements
Essential
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification with full GMC registration and licence to practice
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or eligible within 6–12 months) or equivalent
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA; experience with risk management and NHS guidance
* Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach; strong written and verbal communication; ability to manage clinical complexity
* Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and postgraduate teaching; evidence of CPD and audit involvement
Desirable
* MRCPsych or equivalent; higher degree (MD/PhD/MSc) or leadership/management qualifications
* Experience in management and ability to develop and use multimedia teaching materials; publications or research experience
Eligibility
Essential: Fully GMC registered with licence to practise; included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of appointment. Desirable: Good standing with GMC; approved clinician status or ability to achieve within three months of appointment.

* Knowledge of risk management, DoH guidance, and NHS strategic visions
* Proficiency with IT, including email and internet
* Ability to lead, teach, audit, and engage in service improvement
* Experience delivering care across inpatient, community, and specialist settings
* Evidence of CPD, research, audits, and QI involvement
