Job overview

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our team at Nelsons Court Inpatient Unit.

We are looking for an experienced Band 5 looking to develop their career in a more senior position or someone who is already working as a Band 6 with a keen interest in patient rehabilitation.

Nelsons Court Inpatient Unit predominantly (but not exclusive to) care for older adults who require further rehabilitation in maximise their function before returning home.

Main duties of the job

To undertake the specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and management, of a designated group of patients, within the specialty of inpatient rehabilitation. This will involve working with individuals, groups and relatives /carers and relevant others, providing specialist assessment and treatment in the most appropriate environment .

To determine clinical need and intervention indicated. To work as an autonomous practitioner; holding responsibility for own caseload of patients with complex physical, psychological & cognitive problems.

To provide support, specialist advice and training to more junior members of staff and students. To act as a resource within the department and Trust providing specialist information and advice regarding patients within the speciality of Inpatient rehabilitation.

To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with legislation, professional and service policy. To contribute to the collection of business related information in order to inform service development and priorities.

To work flexibly as a member of the department responding to relevant service needs.

Provide support to other colleagues when dealing with this group of patients.

To be responsible for a defined area of service working without direct supervision, clinical work is not routinely evaluated, however clinical work will be evaluated in line with Trust and service objectives. Access and advice is available from senior professional colleagues if required.

Initiate evidence based audit and projects to evaluate and improve clinical practice. Initiate and evaluate user involvement and where appropriate make local service changes.

To contribute to appropriate clinical networks which may be at a local, regional or national level.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

8. HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
9. Evidence of relevant CPD activities

Desirable criteria

10. Evidence of recognised post graduate training within specialist area
11. Practice placement supervisor qualification

Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential criteria

12. Experience in a relevant role, including the management of a range of elderly medical conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
13. Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
14. Experience in assessment and provision of specialist equipment
15. Awareness of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice

Desirable criteria

16. Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
17. Specialist clinical skills within relevant area
18. Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
19. Delivery of relevant audit projects

Skills and Attributes

20. Ability to organise and prioritise
21. Ability to demonstrate appropriate engagement with others and understanding of the impact of good and poor communication
22. Ability to work as an effective member of multidisciplinary team
23. Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner

24. Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty
25. Ability to transport self and equipment within the community
