Job overview


An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Child Health Directorate as a band 2 Ward Clerk to join our friendly team of ward clerks.

We are looking for a ward clerk to cover hours to support the service through the week.

The hours can be negotiable but it is anticipated that the hours will be 5 mornings a week with an expectation of some flexibility to work extended hours (to include a 7.30 pm finish) to cover absence from within the team.

You will be working within a friendly team of ward clerks who are required to provide reception and administrative support to the clinical and nursing team as well as being the first point of contact for patients, parents, carers and visitors to the wards.

You will need to be organised with good communication skills as well as the ability to work in a busy ward area that can be challenging and demanding.

To provide administrative support within an acute setting for Child Health across all ward areas, to include Louisa Cary Ward, Short Stay Paediatric assessment unit (SSPAU) and Special Care baby unit (SCBU).

The post holder will provide reception and administrative support to the Clinical and Nursing Team within each ward area.

This role could involve admin cover within the wider Child Health admin team dependent on service demands.

Child Health is sometimes referred to as a mini hospital, the department looks after all manner of childhood hospital admissions and outpatient pathways from 0-18 yrs. The Admin team are integral to these pathways be they acute or in our various outpatient settings. Often the 1st point of contact on both Louisa Cary ward and and paediatric assessment unit for parents, professionals and service users our knowledgeable staff are always there to help when needed.

You will be the first contact with the ward for many relatives so your communication skills will be excellent.
