Overview
Data Engineer role at ARAG Legal Services UK based in Bristol. ARAG UK Group have an exciting opportunity to join the Digital Services team as a Data Engineer in our Bristol office.
As Data Engineer you will support the Data Engineering Manager with the design and implementation of the enterprise data lakehouse, data movement and data model design and implementation to support the needs of the business. You will ensure it is trusted, secure, scalable, performant and fit for purpose.
Responsibilities
* Leverage contemporary technologies and data paradigms as appropriate.
* Support a single analytical view of data and information.
* Implement to defined metrics and deliver business value by enabling action-oriented insights.
* Ensure alignment with information management strategy and guiding principles.
* Ensure data lineage and documentation provide explainability fit for audit in a regulated environment.
* Collaborate with Finance, the Reporting & Analytics team, Data Platform teams and other stakeholders to design and build secure, dependable, and well-performing data solutions.
About You
You will address a wide range of business areas with varied technical understanding and effectively convey complex technical problems to non-technical colleagues.
You will have experience implementing cloud-centric data solutions using platforms such as Azure, with the ability and desire to learn new technologies and tools.
You will be comfortable building and administering data models, ensuring accessibility and appropriate usage, leveraging platforms such as Databricks, dbt and Power BI.
You will have knowledge of automating deployments using tools such as PowerShell and Azure DevOps and the ability to use Python for data manipulation and supporting data processing activities.
You will demonstrate a passion for data with an understanding of data architecture principles and data storytelling to maximise value from raw data. Familiarity with ETL/ELT, Kimball, and the Medallion Data Lakehouse paradigm is desirable.
The successful candidates will have
* Experience with multiple ETL/ELT tools, including cloud technologies (e.g. Azure Data Factory, dbt, Databricks, SSIS, AWS Glue) is desirable.
* Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 onward, including SSIS package design.
* Strong problem solving and planning skills with a proactive, can-do attitude to manage risks and maintain delivery commitments.
* Knowledge of the insurance industry and regulated environments is desirable.
* Experience working in an Agile environment; ability to lead daily stand-ups is advantageous.
* Experience using an ESB (e.g. MuleSoft ESB) is desirable.
* Good communication and relationship-building skills.
* Strong BI knowledge and hands-on skills.
