Trained Specialist Craftsperson e.g. Carpenter, Joiner, with a qualification in City and Guilds or NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience. Able to demonstrate advanced traditional craft skills. Up to date knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM regulations. Familiar with the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment. Knowledge of repair techniques for old buildings. Able to record accurately work assessments, work undertaken and record hours, materials and costs either electronically or via paperwork. Able to demonstrate good customer service/client support skills. Able to train and develop apprentices and other junior team members. Lead carpenter / JoinerReporting into the Building Supervisor, you’ll work within a carpentry / joinery team including an Apprentice Carpenter and a Facilities Support Services Coordinator. Through delivery of conservation repairs and replacement, the team will help to look after our most significant and historic buildings. In addition to conservation carpentry repair and joinery tasks such as windows, doors, floorboards and gates, other works may include structural repairs, traditional lath ceiling works and making and fitting new joinery. We’re a small but highly proficient team who all help each other and other teams within the National Trust when needed, therefore knowledgeable of other trades would be beneficial. Your contractual place of work will be in West Wycombe where you will spend a large proportion of your time. However, you will also spend time travelling to work onsite at other National Trust properties across the area. From bench joinery to site carpentry, your role will be varied carrying out conservation repairs and where necessary making and fitting replacements using traditional skills. The scope of work you will be doing will include condition reports detailing recommended repairs or replacement, fabrication / installation of specialist bespoke joinery such as windows and doors and other items. Part of our work is also to engage with our visitors and showing them the conservation work that’s being carried out.
